TDC has observed a High Digital Security Illiteracy Rate for Digital Citizens on its course of work while there is a gradual increase in Internet penetration in Tanzania, this poses a threat for their digital safety.
With that said, TDC has developed a strategy for Increasing Digital Security awareness to the public (netizens) in a simplified local and foreign language (Swahili & English) with the highest priority.
According to a quarterly communication statistics by the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), the number of internet users rose to 23.14 million, up from 22.99 million in 2017, with the majority of those using their handsets to go online.
Since TDC focuses on digital solutions, it has envisioned using technology to solve this by conducting an online media campaign to educate the public and local authorities on Digital Security issues and will address this challenge by developing social media strategy. Also, creating digital Security awareness materials to share with the community this case the target audience is the General Public a.k.a. digital Citizens (Netzens) in which the assumption for the audience is that they contain a low Capacity level of Digital Security knowledge and skills.
The short term outcome of this initiative is that TDC is looking forward for the Improved knowledge, skills by the public while the long terms outcomes are the Improved digital security posture and practices for the target audiences(Netzens) and to obtain the Non-vulnerable and Self-Safeguarded Community (Netizens) s the major impact.
